Focus: Easter
Text:
Object: Twigs made into a cross
Song: "Oh, How he Loves You and Me"
Boys and girls, I'm glad to see you today. Isn't it wonderful to come to church this Easter Sunday? Today, we are learning how Jesus was crucified on the cross, buried in a tomb and rose again on the third day. He died for our sins so that we could have eternal life with him in heaven.
Now, I want you to watch my hands. Who can tell me what I'm holding? Yes, these are two twigs, one is short, the other longer. I'm going to tie these together to form another object (Make a cross with the twigs by tying in the center.)
Now, what is the object I'm holding? Yes, it's a cross. The cross represents what Jesus did for us. He loved us so much that he suffered and died for us — for you, for you and for you. (Point to each child as you speak.)
Listen as I read John 15:9. "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love." We honor God when we do what is right. True happiness comes from following His teachings.
Prayer: God, we ask you to guide each boy and girl here today. May they follow your command and love you with all their heart. Amen.
[Ask the pianist to play a stanza of "Oh, How he Loves You and Me" as children return to their seats.
