A television station in Cincinnati, Ohio
reported a strange story about a woman whose family could not bear to
say good-bye. Even though Johanna Pope had been dead for three
years, it was reported that her family and friends would from time to
time come to visit her body. She had been propped up in a chair in
her room and the television and air conditioner remained on. The
deceased had told some of her friends that she expected to come back
to life. It is a Biblical idea to hope for life after death, but it
is for eternal life, not life back on earth.

The incredibly wealthy Malcolm Forbes, Sr. once said, “By the time that
we’ve made it, we’ve had it.” What a dismal view of life and death. Far
better is the view of that unknown man who said, “Any day above ground is
a good one.” And best of all the viewpoint of one who said, “Death is
not extinguishing the light. It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has
come!”
