Mitsuo Fuchida flew the lead plane and led of the
attack against Pearl Harbor.
He was the sole survivor of the seven commanders and squadron leaders
he led. Among his adventures were six crashes at sea. While
undergoing an appendectomy, the ship he was on was hit by a bomb
which broke both his legs. He was hurled into the sea, but rescued.
In 1950 Fuchida was converted to Christianity. At one point Fuchida
engaged in a series of speaking engagements in theUnited States. At
a church in Texas, he met a man in the congregation who had survived
the Pearl Harbor attack. The two men shook hands and celebrated the
unity and forgiveness that can come through Christ.
