A related title is Worship at the Next Level (Baker), edited by Tim A. Dearborn and Scott Coll. The emphasis here is on evaluating the contemporary state of Christian worship, and essays are written by a variety of authors, including Robert Webber (who apparently must be included in all worship-related books!), Leonard Sweet, Andy Crouch, James F. White and others. In the foreword, Webber laments the bathos (or “sudden appearance of the commonplace”) of much contemporary worship, opining that, “worship during the last thirty years has so enmeshed itself with culture that it has become weak, banal, and insipid.” OK, so that’s why Webber gets invited to write for all these books!
