“The Spirit and the Word” was the theme of the sixth annual National Conference on Preaching, held February 22-24 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA.
Beautiful weather, warm fellowship and inspiring preaching characterized the latest installment of this annual series, which draws participants from throughout the U.S. and abroad, and includes ministers from more than a dozen denominations.
Plenary speakers explored the role and work of the Holy Spirit in the task of preaching. Workshop leaders offered practical counsel on a variety of preaching issues and topics. (A complete list of speakers and titles may be found on page 42.)
Among the conference’s featured speakers were Lloyd John Ogilvie, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, CA; J. Alfred Smith, Pastor, Allen Temple Baptist Church, Oakland, CA; John Huffman, Pastor, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA; Frank Harrington, Pastor of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA; and Robert Schuller and Bruce Larson, co-pastors of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA.
The theme of next year’s National Conference on Preaching, scheduled for May 2-4, 1995, is “Preaching Against the Grain: Confronting Culture in Preaching.” The conference will be held at First Baptist Church of Nashville, Tennessee, and an outstanding slate of speakers is taking shape.
