Visitors to EPCOT at Disney World may wonder about the name. Originally it was
an acronym for Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow. It was to be a whole
new kind of city, but it was never built. Showcase exhibits from other
countries took the land that was supposed to be the site of the City of
Tomorrow and took the name as well. Finally, however, a housing development has
been started adjacent to the theme park. Called Celebration, the new town has
homes that are big on nostalgia but hardly futuristic. Victorian and similar
styles of architecture make the City of Tomorrow look like the City of
Yesterday.
Whatever their tastes in architecture, Christians recognize that spiritually we
must blend the best from the past with the possibilities of the future.
Christians do not live in the past, but they learn from the past. They do not
approach the future without taking along what has been gained from days gone
by.
