Sometimes you will hear it said of a man who has died, “He never had an
enemy.” If so, he was a rare man. Few of us can say with Will Rogers,
“I never met a man I didn’t like.” Will Rogers never met some of the
people we’ve had to deal with. If he had, he would never have said that. And
usually the people we don’t like are people who don’t like us!

The Bible is so realistic. The Bible never assumes that you will get through
life without making enemies. The Bible only tells us how to deal with our
enemies. “Do not gloat when your enemy falls ” (Proverbs 24:17).
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him” (Romans 12:20). “Love your
enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).
