People in South Carolina call Charleston “The Holy City.” That doesn’t mean there is no crime there, though Charleston has much less crime than many similar cities. It does not mean everyone there is honest, though most people are. The Bible belt morality is alive and well in Charleston. It refers to the fact that there are 22 historic churches in Charleston. The oldest congregation was established in 1687! Long-time church goers, however, will think of a song often sung in many churches, “The Holy City.” The song echoes Revelation 21:2 and is about the New Jerusalem that shall not pass away. In that holy city, there will be no crime, no sin. It will be truly holy.

“I can’t,” said the boy. “Mom said I have to come home right after church.”

The Maldives is an island nation. Rising sea levels in the Indian Ocean threaten this land of 376,000 people. It is, in fact, the lowest nation on earth. The county is still facing terrible effects from the 2004 tsunami. In a desperate attempt to save their people, they want to buy land from Sri Lank or Australia to relocate the entire country. Christians hope someday to be relocated. We hope for a better land where there will be no tears, pain or death. The good news is there is plenty of room in eternity, and Jesus has paid the price for our new home.

Jesus told us, “In My Father’s house are many mansions,” enough to house a multitude no one can number; and the dwelling places were designed and created by the Lord of this spectacular universe.
