Hendrik Van Loon said, “Ours is a fifth-rate planet revolving around a 10th-rate sun in the forgotten corner of the universe.” Many wonder if God could or would visit planet Earth, but they do not understand that ours is a whimsical God; and when you consider He chose little Israel, little Bethlehem, an insignificant carpenter and insignificant shepherds, you begin to see God often displays what might be called a sense of humor—or at least of whimsy.

A third generation preacher, Mike Shannon is Professor of Preaching at Cincinnati Bible Seminary of Cincinnati Christian University.
