People have been coming to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., for a long time. It used to be called Camp Walton. People thought it was the fish camp of writer Izaak Walton, whose book The Compleat Angler was then popular. They were looking for a camp that did not exist. In 1932, the name was changed to Fort Walton. People came looking for a fort that did not exist. In 1953, the city commission thought it would be a good idea to add the word beach, and now people come looking for a beach that does not exist.
You read in Hebrews 11 that Abraham came to Canaan “looking for a city.” He lived and died in a tent! You’d think he was looking for a city that did not exist. Then you read a little further in chapter 11 and learn he was looking for “a city that has foundations whose builder and maker is God.” Then you know he was looking for a city that does exist. He found it, and we will, too.
