Anzac Day is a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand. It has become a kind of general Memorial Day for the honored dead soldiers who served in the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Originally it was to commemorate the Battle of Gallipoli in World War I. The odd thing is that it does not commemorate a victory. It commemorates a defeat! The battle failed to achieve its objective, but was a place where soldiers showed great courage and sacrifice. It appears to some that communion commemorates a defeat, but instead it commemorates a victory.
