Dr. L. Nelson Bell was the father of Ruth Graham and the editor of Christianity Today. Twenty years after he left China, someone interviewed a former patient who remembered that when she needed blood and none was available, he took blood from his own veins to give to her. When Dr. Bell was reminded of it, he couldn’t remember the event. Why? Because he had done it so often it was almost routine for him. When Jesus shed His blood for our sins, He was doing something that was not routine. Nobody had done it before. Nobody has done it since. Nobody could have done it, except Him.
