When my daughter was in junior high, she asked for a cat. The request was denied, so she announced she was praying for a cat. Never underestimate the power of the prayers of a child. Soon a stray cat showed up around the yard. She began feeding the cat on the back porch, and you know what happened? She said, “Daddy, it is getting so cold. Can’t the cat stay in the garage in the winter?” After that, she said, “It is so uncomfortable in there. Can’t he stay in my room?” From there he began to have the run of the house. We knew the war was over when she asked to go to the store to make a metal tag to go on the cat’s collar. It had the cat’s name on one side and her name on the other. Little did that cat know what he was getting into when that little girl put her name on that cat. He didn’t have to hunt for food anymore. She graciously provided it. He was always safe, warm and had plenty of affection and companionship. When we made the decision to move from that area, her first question was, “May I take my cat?” When she got married, her husband had to accept the cat as part of the deal. She was also with the cat, cradling him when he breathed his last. That cat’s life changed when someone put her name on him. Something similar has happened to us. As it was said to Moses concerning the priests of Israel log ago, “So they will put My name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” It has happened to us, as well.
