The psalms are among the most challenging texts for Christian preachers. A helpful new resource in that task is The Psalms as Christian Lament: A Historical Commentary (Wm. B. Eerdmans) by Bruce Waltke, James M. Houston and Erika Moore. Following a helpful opening chapter on the nature of lament psalms (and their value to Christian readers), the commentary deals at length with 10 lament psalms (5, 6, 7, 32, 38, 39, 44, 102, 130 and 143), drawing on exegetical insights, as well as the work of great Christian thinkers of the past, such as Jerome, Augustine and the Reformers.
