In the June 22, 1991, issue of USA Today, there appeared a full-page ad with a banner headline: “In Autumn 1992 Jesus Is Coming Again.” If He did, a lot of us missed it. You have to admire the generosity of somebody who paid for that ad, but you have to wonder if he or she has read in the New Testament “of that day and hour no one knows” or read anything about church history. Count the times when someone had it all figured out only to be disappointed when it didn’t happen. It will happen, of course, but perhaps we already have had all the warning we are going to get.
