Haddon Robinson’s Biblical Preaching, recently published in its third edition, is one of the most popular preaching texts used in colleges and seminaries. Through his emphasis on “Big Idea” preaching, Robinson has influenced more than one generation of evangelical expositors.
In Models for Biblical Preaching, Robinson and coeditor Patricia Batten have selected a collection of outstanding sermons preached by past students of Robinson at Gordon-Conwell Seminary or Denver Seminary. Following each sermon, there is a brief commentary which discusses the sermon, then a short interview with the preacher, sometimes discussing specific elements of the sermon and other times more general questions about the speaker’s approach to preaching.
Among the preachers featured are Bryan Wilkerson, Steve Mathewson, Kent Edwards and Robinson’s Gordon-Conwell colleagues Batten and Matthew Kim. The book also includes a sermon by Torrey Robinson, Haddon’s son and a pastor in Tarrytown, New York.
