One dad went a bit too far to help his daughter feel like a princess.
A Virginia man, Jeremiah Heaton, has traveled to an unclaimed region in North Africa and claimed it as his own sovereign territory, naming his 7-year-old daughter “Princess Emily.”
According to a report in the Aug. 9, 2014, issue of World, Bir Tawil is “an unclaimed portion of desert along the Sudan-Egypt border,” and “one of the few places on earth with terra nullius status, meaning it is not claimed by any government.”
Heaton traveled by caravan to the region, planted his own homemade flag there, and has petitioned the neighboring nations for official recognition.
