On the Caribbean island of St. Croix, Thanksgiving Day comes at the end of the hurricane season to express gratitude that no hurricane struck the island that year. It is, thus, tied to a single event. We think Thanksgiving should cover the whole spectrum of blessings—small and large, visible and invisible, material and spiritual—which is why we often sing “Count Your Blessings.”

A third generation preacher, Mike Shannon is Professor of Preaching at Cincinnati Bible Seminary of Cincinnati Christian University. He has served as a preaching minister, church planter, and college professor. His most recent preaching ministry was at the historic First Christian Church of Johnson City, Tennessee. In his nearly two decades at Cincinnati Christian University, Mike has served as both professor and Dean of the Seminary.
