It is a custom in the Philippines for some devout believers to reenact the crucifixion of Jesus by actually having them crucified for a time. The reenactors actually are nailed to a cross and suffer great pain. Some adaptations have been made to reduce the risk of infections, but it is still a quite dangerous practice. Church leaders almost universally have rejected the practice.

What is no doubt a nobly motivated action is unnecessary. Jesus went to the cross so we would not have to do so.
