Ruth Graham wrote a book several years ago entitled In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart (Zondervan). Those who have preached for any length of time know the pain and brokenness that can be found in any congregation, and we understand that our preaching can apply God’s Word as a salve to heal hurting people. James Merritt’s newest book is 9 Ways to Hold On When You Want to Give Up (Harvest House), and in it he draws on biblical truth to offer counsel about facing life’s challenging times. This will be a good book to share with those who are hurting, and could prompt an excellent sermon series.
