My friend Stan Toler once said, “If you've always done it that way before, maybe you've been doing it wrong.”
As we start a new year, this is a good time to ask: Are there some new ways to try things? Some new approaches to take? Some opportunities to claim? Are there some things that can make your preaching more effective in the year ahead?
Let 2016 be the year you take your preaching to a new level as you ask yourself these four questions:
• Does this message communicate the key truth found in the particular biblical passage I’m preaching?
• Does this message clearly explain the ideas presented and illustrate them so they will be clear to most listeners?
• Does this message contain a “So What?/Now What?” factor throughout so listeners will understand clearly what they should be doing about this biblical truth?
• Does this message honor Jesus and draw people to Him?
May your new year be filled with joy and faithfulness!
Blessings!
