As a leader of the national health care debate, New York is considering the most sweeping changes to the state’s health care system in modern history. Paul Hannesson, a spokesman for the Christian Science church, asked state health and insurance officials in Rochester to consider health care reform that affords all New Yorkers access to spiritual care.

The New York Partnership for Health has held stakeholder meetings throughout the state prior ot drafting legislation and is in position to include access to, and coverage for, a prayer-based method of healing, along with conventional care.

Hannesson urged the Partnership for Health to live up to the state motto, “Excelsior,” take a higher stand on health care access, and foster the well-being of society by recognizing a spiritual approach to health care would be practical and beneficial to all people.
