Sometimes word pictures, that is illustrations, help a congregation tie pieces of information together so the people have a clearer understanding of what their preacher is communicating.
Christians typically respond to tragedy in one of two ways: Either they see them as God's judgment and punishment, or they rush to deliver aid to hurting people. Is there another response to tragedy that we should express in times of destruction, loss and devestation?
Be well-read if you expect to be well-spoken. Listen to the language of good books, and your speaking will develop as your ear hears proper uses of words and sentence structure.
