How much is an Oscar worth?

While winning an Oscar (the nickname for the annual awards given by the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences) can add millions to the future earning power of the actor who wins one, how much do you suppose you can get by selling one?

You can get $1. Yes, that’s one single dollar…100 pennies…a buck.

Why so little, when the materials alone (including gold plating) are worth almost $1,000? It’s because, for the past few decades, the Academy has required every nominee to sign a “winner’s agreement” that they cannot sell their Oscar without first offering to sell it back to the Academy…for one dollar.

It seems the Academy doesn’t want Oscars in the hands of collectors, though some from the early years have been sold. (The Best Picture Oscar for Gone With the Wind was sold to singer Michael Jackson for $1.5 million.) So, something that is of great value can’t be bought—only given.

Sound familiar? God’s’ grace is the most amazing treasure in the world, but you can’t buy it. You can only receive it as a gift of God’s amazing grace.

Unlike an Oscar, salvation will last forever.

Blessings!
