It’s not a new book – it was published in 2010 – but I recently came across a copy of Alive to the Word: A Practical Theology of Preaching for the Whole Church (SCM Press) by Stephen I. Wright. Wright, who teaches at Spurgeon’s College in suburban London, offers a wide-ranging analysis of the preaching ministry, including both historical perspective and implications for the contemporary church. It is a rich and meaty volume which will be of value to any pastor and student of preaching.
