Ministry Loves Company: A Survival Guide for Pastors (Westminster John Knox) by John Galloway, Jr., is a helpful look at the joys and challenges (especially the challenges) of parish ministry. Himself a Presbyterian pastor in Wayne, PA, Galloway writes with humor and grace about the wonderful, frustrating task of being a pastor, which he says is being akin to serving as “facilitator” at a family reunion – where you are not a member of the family. This is an excellent volume for new pastors, for those who want to get a fresh start, or for those who just want to know why it went so wrong last time.
