The Psalms continue to bless and teach us in unique ways, and James L. Mays offers an interesting guide for pastors in Preaching And Teaching The Psalms
(Westminster John Knox). The first half of the book is actually a
collection of articles, essays and lectures developed by Mays – now
Professor Emeritus of Hebrew and Old Testament at Union Theological
Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond.
The second half consists of a series of expositions of various Psalms
(8, 22, 23, 51, 103, 133, and 82/24/98), and a series of seven
sermons on selected Psalms. (Given their length, they might more
properly be called meditations than full-length sermons.) As
preachers give attention to the Psalms in their study, this book will
be a helpful resource.
