One thing preachers always should welcome is published collections of sermons, and this collection is a particularly distinguished homiletical treasury. Most of the sermons were preached in July 2009 at St. Pierre’s Cathedral in Geneva, Switzerland, in honor of the 500th anniversary of John Calvin’s birth. St. Pierre’s is where Calvin preached more than 2,000 of his own sermons between 1536 and his death in 1564.

In the hall of fame of those who have shaped Christian thought in two millennia, John Calvin occupies a key role as one of the Reformers who sought to restore the church to biblical fidelity. Yet not only was Calvin a theologian and clerical leader, he was a powerful and prolific preacher. Thus, having a collection of outstanding Reformed preachers gather for a celebration of the proclamation of God’s Word was a fitting method by which to celebrate the life and work of Calvin.

Among the preachers represented in the collection are Sinclair Ferguson, Bryan Chapell, Philip Graham Ryken, Ligon Duncan, Derek W.H. Thomas and several others.

This collection of sermons by a team of gifted expositors is a worthy tribute to that great Genevan preacher in celebration of his 500th birthday.

Preaching Like Calvin offers a rich feast that will nourish any preacher and all who love God’s Word.
