David Jeremiah observes, “A cartoonist in the New Yorker drew a picture of a small town general store with this banner in the window: ‘Going Out of Business, Slowly but Surely.’ Many churches and organizations go out of business slowly but surely because they resist change. You might not like change, but I’ll bet you can think of something worse – stagnation! ‘Stagnation can befall any kind of organization,’ warns consultant Jeanie Daniel Duck.

“It can also befall people. We have to remember that while not all changes are good, changes from God are very good. ‘Wherever the Lord’s Spirit is, there is freedom,’ wrote the apostle Paul. ‘As all of us reflect the Lord’s glory with faces that are not covered with veils, we are being changed into His image with ever-increasing glory. This comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit’ (2 Cor. 3:17-18, God’s Word). (from Turning Point Daily Devotional, 6-10-04)

Have
you seen some of these observations about modern life that have been making
the rounds on the internet? You know you’re living in 2005 when:

* You
accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
* You have
a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3 or 4.
* You e-mail
the person who works at the desk next to you.
* You haven’t
played solitaire with real cards in years.
* You get
up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.

Recently,
Beloit College released a list of facts to help people understand the mindset
of the incoming college class.  Here are a few of their reminders concerning
today’s college students:

* They
don’t remember when “cut and paste” involved scissors
* Most of
them do not know how to tie a tie
* The Starship
Enterprise has always looked dated
* Jimmy Carter
has always been an elder statesman
* They never
saw a Howard Johnson’s with 28 flavors
* Digital
cameras have always existed

“There is nothing wrong in change if it is in the right direction. To improve
is to change, so to be perfect is to have changed often.”
