Portsmouth Island is uninhabited. It is one of the barrier islands off the North Carolina Coast. It has been so ravaged by storms that the last three residents left in 1971. A few houses remain, along with a church. From time to time, a man rows over from the mainland, cleans the church and mows the lawn. He said he does it so that when Jesus comes back, His house will be presentable. That is a kind and noble thought, but it is far more important that when Jesus comes back He will find us presentable.
