It is getting harder and harder to be a hermit. The Associated Press carried a story recently about a man in Maine who lived for almost 30 year in the backwoods. He recently decided to move back into society. The main reason was that he had been caught stealing. The man’s name is Christopher Knight, also known as the North Pond Hermit, and he admits to more than 1,000 thefts in order to survive. Knight is under a court-ordered program to get counseling and training. He has agreed although he doesn’t much like the society to which he is returning. One thing we all can learn: No matter how much people frustrate us, we need each other to survive in this world.
