In a recent interview with The New York Times (Apr. 16, 2014), billionaire and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg talked about his political and philanthropic efforts, then told reporter Jeremy Peters: “I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”
Unfortunately, too many people assume entry to heaven is based on piling up more good deeds than bad. The reality is Scripture tells us $100,000,000,000 worth of good deeds won’t be enough to satisfy the demands of a holy God. That’s why Jesus died on the cross—to pay the price for our sin and to clothe us in His righteousness.
