According to a 2006 survey conducted in the United Kingdom, more than 80 percent of people lie at least once a day—and who knows how many people lied on the survey! They study revealed that people tell little white lies to get out of work, to get out of trouble, to spare someone’s feelings and to save their own reputations. Respondents also said technology such as email, voice mail and cell phones make it easier to get away with long-distance fibs. (Today in the Word, May 2007)
