According to Ripley’s Believe it or Not, the oldest known bird was called the Archaeopteryx. According to scientists, this ancient bird was so clumsy it could not control its own flight. It simply flew into the air and went wherever the wind blew it.

Many Christians are that way. They have no sense of direction and purpose. Because of that, they go where the wind blows them.

We eat foods that do not nourish us. We drink beverages that do not quench our thirst. We wear clothing that does not protect us. They all symbolize the fact that we live without purpose. Life has no more meaning for many than it has for the hamster n his cage, turning his little wheel. God wants to give high purpose to life. He wants to challenge us to give our lives to the same noble purposes to which Jesus gave His life.

Just outside Bryson City, NC, is a beautiful highway called by locals,
“The Road to Nowhere.” It is what is left of an aborted attempt to
create a highway between Bryson City and Townsend, Tennessee. Environmental
concerns caused the cessation of the project. Those who travel the road tell of
how beautiful the scenery is and how smooth the highway is, but it simply comes
to an end. Some people may find some temporal joys in this life. They may even
have their share of pleasure. Eventually they must ask, “Am I going
anywhere?” If we have no sense of purpose and meaning, we are on a road to
nowhere.
