The mystery novels of Agatha Christie have been enormously popular. Only the
Bible and the works of Shakespeare have sold more copies. At the time of her
death she had sold more than two billion copies of her books all over the
world.
Her play Mousetrap opened in London in 1952 and has been running ever since,
the longest continual theater production ever. But the oddest part of her fame
is this. The front cover of her book Evil Under the Sun turned up in New Guinea
where it was revered as an object of worship!
We are sometimes accused of worshiping another book — the Bible. But we do
not. We treat it with respect because of the message it contains, but we do not
worship the paper or the binding or the covers. We worship the One Who is
revealed to us on those pages, not the pages themselves.
