Harvard University is the wealthiest college in the United States with approximately $27 billion in its endowment. How did all that wealth begin? Harvard was founded by New England Puritans and was a very small and poor school. The Puritans in New England heard that some of their fellow Puritans were stranded and destitute on an island near Bermuda, so they sent food and relief provisions to their comrades. Wanting to express their gratitude, the islanders sent some wood to New England with the mandate to auction it off with the proceeds going to help the small fledgling school called Harvard. So, you see big things can come from small beginnings.
